PRESS REPORT:

The Mountain View Weekly (Sunday, 9th Nov. 2003):

An Introduction to SRF-1998, Butwal

Scholarship Revolving Fund – 1998 (SRF-1998, for Short) is an N.G.O., which does not work for profit. It is a service-oriented institution. It came into existence in 1998 on the happy occasion of National Education Day (Falgun 12) with a highly esteemed team of seventeen people. It has its own unique vision of charity work in educational field. It does not make racial or religious discrimination. It is free from any political beliefs. It is based on the ideals of right to school education for those who are almost deprived of this opportunity due to different reasons. Special preference is given to the teen-agers who are from very poor homely backgrounds, disables, orphans, restitutes, mentally-retarded ones, children on street at risk, children from scheduled communities and from very backward areas as
well as the children below fourteen in prison due to different causes.

It launched a campaign for raising its fund from time to time in various ways. It has its four categories of membership. At present, the number of total members has reached to one hundred and nineteen.

It is not a project of any NGO run by foreign donors. It is mainly depended on its own members' contribution in many ways. Its catchments area is Butwal Municipality and some VDCs attached to it ( Semlar & Motipur) . Naharpur Secondary School is the Central Point. Main focus is also given to the very poor children studying in this school by providing them scholarship. This school has provided some official help o this institution from the beginning. The motto of this institution is : " Poverty of any children can never be their crime. So these children must not be deprived of schooling for any reasons." "Let's help the poor children and work for them."

This institution runs different programs at different times for this right cause. We also want to draw attention of the government and other concerned sectors towards the importance of this type. We claim, the government should be highly responsible for such children's school education. It is our advocacy towards the education ministry . The executive committee of this institution is formed of eleven members. The present Chair Person and the Member Secretary are Mr. Moti Raj Gyawali and Mr. Madhav Prasad Acharya respectively. General Assembly elects the Executive Committee at intervals of every three years according to its constitution.
There is also an Advisory Board of three members and as well as an honorary post designated as Chief Patron (Mrs. Madhu Shah-Chief Patron). Policy is set by the general assembly and all the activities under the system are performed systematically by the volunteers in the executive committee.

It has also developed its web site. It is www.scholarshipfundnepal.org. Till today more than three thousand people have visited this web site and hundreds of people have made their response through its e-mail, i.e. srfund1998@yahoo.com.

This writer has been working in this institution as volunteer part time staff for the last six years. Our experience during this period has proved this effort praiseworthy by the target groups and other personalities working in this field. It has made a target of raising its fund up to five million by last February 2008. All the persons willing to serve such underprivileged children can take its membership
and contribute the fund. Let's get together in an institutional way under SRF-1998 and contribute some help as per our interest and capacity for the schooling of such helpless teenagers. - The Mountain View Weekly (Sunday, 9th Nov. 2003).
